In the space of opening,
what do you yearn for?
Come if you desire this deep shift within your being.
Imagine receiving a personal verse written just for you.
Cultural gestures and movements contribute to an overall sense of closed systems within our bodies and minds - the holding of a cell phone, the time spent on screens, mask-wearing, physical distancing, overall busyness, etc. - which can lead to a sense of stagnation and deterioration. Poetry has long had the capacity to soothe a soul fever and facilitate our inherent connectivity to all things. In a poet session, this along with the simple act of opening a box can re-teach our systems to release and surrender to imagination and possibility.
Some History -“As far back as 4000 BCE, early Egyptians wrote words on papyrus, dissolved them in liquid, and gave them to those who were ill as a form of medicine.” “In 1928, poet and pharmacist Eli Griefer began offering poems to people filling prescriptions and eventually started "poemtherapy" groups at two different hospitals with the support of psychiatrists Dr. Jack L. Leedy and Dr. Sam Spector. After Griefer's death, Leedy and others continued to incorporate poetry into the therapeutic group process, eventually coming together to form the Association for Poetry Therapy (APT) in 1969.” From Good Therapy
